NIJ 0101.06

The NIJ 0101.06 is a standard developed by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) to evaluate the protective performance of various types of body armor. The standard covers different protection levels from Level I to Level IV, with each level tested and assessed against specific ammunition and threats.

The key protection levels under the NIJ 0101.06 standard are as follows:

Level I: Provides basic protection, defending against .22 LR long rifle and 9mm Parabellum handgun rounds.

Level II: Provides standard law enforcement protection, defending against .357 Magnum and .44 Magnum handgun rounds.

Level III: Provides rifle protection, defending against the 5.56x45mm M193 rifle round.

Level IIIA: Provides enhanced law enforcement protection, defending against .357 SIG and .44 Magnum handgun rounds.

Level IV: Provides heavy rifle protection, defending against the .30-06 Springfield FMJ round.
